Exploring common egg freezing FAQs
We often receive egg freezing questions from our patients, so our Kansas fertility center expert has provided the following egg freezing FAQs to assist you in the decision-making process.
Who should consider egg freezing?
Our Kansas fertility center works with women who aren’t yet ready to start their families, but want to preserve their eggs for future use. Dr. Gehlbach also assists women who are about to undergo chemotherapy or other treatments that may jeopardize their fertility in the future.
What is the best time to freeze my eggs?
The peak time for female fertility is in your twenties and early thirties. For optimal results, Dr. Gehlbach recommends considering egg freezing during this time frame.
How long does egg freezing take?
Generally, the entire process takes about four to six weeks.
What does the egg freezing process entail?
If you decide to freeze your eggs, Dr. Gehlbach will conduct a thorough fertility evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure. You will then take a 10 to 14 day course of fertility medication injections to stimulate development of follicles, which contain the eggs. You will be closely monitored at our office while on the fertility injections to determine the optimal day for egg retrieval. When your eggs are mature and the time is right, you will return to our Kansas fertility center for outpatient egg retrieval.
How much does egg freezing cost?
Every situation is different. Our billing specialists will work with you to let you know the specific costs for your treatment plan.
